Joey and I had the blessing of helping organize PBAD this year - the first year we were visitors, the second we were volunteers and this year we organized about 75% of it.
It was fun but sooo busy. I'm very grateful Stephen was able to film it because I feel like I missed most of it running around taking care of things all day.
It was fun, but wow it was exhausting.

Haleigh's Haven is back and up and running and that is really taking up a lot of my time.
We've partnered up with a local cage-free doggie daycare; A Bark Above who is graciously caring for these dogs while we try to find them homes.

It's all good things going on in Nashville, but all so busy!!

I got a preview last night and I just can't help myself - I had to share.

He gave me a little teaser tid-bit; he's doing a whole pittie line like "Tar Pit", "Arm Pit" - playing off words with "pit" in them and I so cannot wait to see what he comes up with.

Stevn Dutton is a phenomonal artist and I have had the pleasure of attending many of his shows. He is also one of the sweetest, kindest human beings I have ever met and I just love him to pieces.

But this show I know is going to be my favorite and I absolutely cannot wait.

Nashville Pittie is the organization that runs Pit Bull Awareness Day here in Nashville.
Joey and I are on the board of members; aka the Nashville Pittie Crew and this year a lot of people expressed an interest in t shirts.

Today Nashville Pit Bulls all Celebrated!

Today was Nashville's annual Dog Day in the Park. It's hosted by the Nashville Humane Society and Purina.
It was a huge event and there were lots of contests.
We took Haleigh Anne to help her work on her shyness issues and we entered her in the Prettiest Dog Over 40 Pounds contest.

Honestly she was one of the prettiest dogs but when they got through the honorable mentions and 3rd place I kind of gave up. I mean no pit bull is going to win over a golden retriever or all the other purebred dogs that entered. But it was fun nonetheless...

So imagine my absolute surprise when they announced that #40, Haleigh with Jenna had WON FIRST PLACE!!!

Haleigh Anne was the only pit bull in the contest and SHE WON FIRST PLACE!!

I was so excited I was shaking and I almost started crying.

They had me parade her around the entire crowd and it was one of the proudest moments of my life.
My big butterball Haleigh Anne won the Prettiest Girl Award! What a great day for all Nashville Pit Bulls!!

Greighson Andrew has Gone to the Dogs!

We have finally found a trainer we love and trust; Keith Milby.
And not only is he a trainer he runs a dog day care and boarding house.
We not only finally found a trainer we hit the jack pot! Now we can finally take a vacation and not be worried to death about our kids.
Oh my God I won't know what to do with myself.
Well, they had their initial evaluation and Haleigh Anne failed the day care test; she has fear aggression issues and has to go to in-house training.
But Greighson Andrew passed with flying colors; Keith said he is an awesome dog and now he has Gone to the Dogs!

So excited for my boy! And Haleigh Anne will be joining him soon after she has one-on-one training with Keith.

And those squirrels, Abbey and LuLu, they'll be going too. But we don't want to scare them - one Krabacher kid at a time ;)

The other day my mom called me. She had taken her dog Cooper to the vet and while she was there this lady came in with her pit bull. This was my mom; "Oh my goodness Jenny you would not believe how big this dog was. I mean he could have made two of Cooper. Really he was just enormous and his head was just huge. I asked her how much he weighed and she said 80 pounds. Wow. That was a big dog...."

This was me; "Uh mom. You know Haleigh weighs 80 pounds. Yea, that little pumpkin you love grew up."

I am still cracking up at my mom for that one. She was so amazed at this "huge dog" and her own grandfurkid is the same size.

My mom has not seen Haleigh in two years - she was only 3 months old the last time she saw her.
They are coming to Nashville next week and staying with us, of course. I so cannot wait for her to see Haleigh.
She is going to freak out. In a good way ;)

I do have to give my mom credit. She was terrified when she found out Joey and I had adopted a pit bull. She was scared to death we were going to get eaten by our dog.
You know how moms can be.
But two years later Haleigh has still not eaten us and she's coming around.
And I even dare to say she's proud.
But with a face like Haleigh's what grammy wouldn't be ;)

I went to a nutrition seminar the other night and it was highly recommended that dogs eat our of elevated bowls to help with digestion.
So I started looking for some, but all I could find was plain plastic or metal bowls, mosaic tile wooden risers and really expensive artsy ones.
I looked all over.
And finally I decided I would just make some myself.

Haleigh and Greighson are crated while we are at work. But we always come home mid-day to let them out to potty, stretch their legs, get some water and a snack.
But some days we just feel like we're interrupting their nap time.

Haleigh is on her 2nd Molly Mutt bed already. She is notorious for chewing up anything we give her in her crate. I try to tell her that is gross, that pretty girls don't live in rat's nests but she doesn't care.

One day I really hope she grows out of that.

No I really am a lap dog. Promise.

I love to shop. And there is nothing more I love to shop for then my kids. I know Joey thanks God every day that we are never going to have human kids because my shopping problem would be totally out of control. ;)

I try to maintain a reasonable budget. The key word being "try". But when I discovered Paco Collars I had to splurge. These collars are just amazing and you absolutely must check them out.

I tried to get pictures but the kids would not sit still in poses where I could get good shots of them - something about the camera makes them want to play unless they're napping.

Mix and Match Turkey Salad*

2 cups free-range turkey, cooked, cooled and cut into small cubes

(I used salmon)
2 Tbsp. dried cranberries
1 Tbsp. organic flax seeds or dried coconut (I used flax)
½ cup diced cucumbers
¼ cup chopped romaine lettuce

Mix and match up to 2 cups of:”
cubed watermelon
cubed cantaloupe
diced fresh peaches
diced fresh apricots
sliced fresh strawberries
blueberries

1 cup plain, organic yogurt
On human portion only: honey and/or sea salt to taste

1. Mix turkey, cranberries, and flax seed or coconut
2. Gently stir in cucumbers, lettuce, and fruit of your choice
3. Blend in yogurt and serve immediately
4. Sprinkle sea salt and drizzle honey on human portions if desired

Of course Joey and I did not eat this but it actually looked like it would taste pretty good and the kids loved it!

It’s a great cool summer treat.

Crabby Abbey and LuLu Magoo

Abbey was almost left behind. When we went out to get her litter on Hay Day - Samantha from the TN SPCA knew about them before we went out - Abbey almost got left behind. As we were pulling away Joey looked back and noticed a little black ball in the yard. He jumped the fence to make sure and sure enough it was a puppy. That is how we got our Crabby Abbey.
She is lovingly called Crabby because she was a mean little tyke. She bit me in the face 3 times before I got smart and stopped giving her kisses. She grunts like a pig (so not kidding) and is just not the lovey, dovey cuddly type. And that is how we came to keep her.
We were scared of what could happen to her if she was adopted out. She was really mean.
She's come a long way and is a lot more loving now - in her own way.
And her Crabby Abbey-ness is funny and part of her charm.

LuLu Magoo on the other hand has been the sweetest, most loving puppy I have ever met from the day she was brought to our home. She was rescued by Tiffany Galyon with Operation Education along with 16 other puppies.
We took in 5 to foster but LuLu stole Joey's heart. She is just the sweetest, most precious puppy God ever created (I swear I'm not biased, she really is) and we just could not let her go.

The funny thing is the grumpiest little puppy and the sweetest little puppy are total BFFs; they LOVE each other. And we do too.

That was the day we adopted Greighson!
His rescue (East Mississippi Animal Rescue) was on a huge transport so we drove down to Alabama to meet them to pick him up.
He was soooo sweet. And he really did rescue us. Bu don't they all?

Abbey and LuLu love each other and it is the sweetest thing to watch.

One day they are going to be too big to share this bed but for now it just warms my heart to see how sweet they are to one another.

Right around the time of the flood we had the bird family that built their nest in one of our ferns.
I was so sad because the babies were gone one day and I did not get to see them fly away.
Realistically what are the chances of that happening?
But I was still sad because that fern hung right outside our living room window so we were able to watch the momma bird build the nest and then she laid her eggs and then they hatched and we got to see all this.
They also were there for the bad storms and flood which even intensified our love for them because we had to make sure they were safe and to keep them safe without upsetting momma.
We loved those birds.
And now they're gone.
But the other day Joey found a new nest in the front door arrangement I made.
I made this arrangement myself - which needs some TLC but I can't do anything to it now because we have a family in it!! And I was so proud that they picked the arrangement I made myself to build their nest.
Normal people would probably find that a nuisance, but I'm so happy they're here.
I worry because they're on the front door and every time we open the door momma goes flying off.
We're extra careful opening and closing the door now too so they should be OK.

It was hard to get a picture of them because they're nestled in the right hand side in the back up against the door, but here they are...

Haleigh Anne has been a daddy's girl since day 1. Kind of made me sad at first because I'm the one who found her and filled out her 10 page application and rallied for us adopt her. And then she turns around and gives her Daddy all the love.

But Joey adores her and their bond is just precious.

These pictures are posted on Nashville PAW's Facebook page - my friend told me she saw LuLu and I on there from the Patriotic Paws Brunch at Lowes Vanderbilt Plaza - a very, very pet friendly hotel.
They allow Nashville PAWS to doggie parties in their ballroom!
This was our first event, but we will definitely be back for the Tailwaggin' Tailgate Titans Party in August.

And they were always successful at getting as many cookies as they wanted.

Imagine that.

Petey was adopted this winter by a wonderful family. He was taken to an adoption event at Pet Smart and the family that adopted him spent $1000 on toys, beds, food, treats.... you name it, they bought it.

And then they took him home in his brand new ride, an Infinity SUV.

Petey Pot is living the high life now.

I thank God every day I got that call about taking her in that night.

She has been such a blessing to us and we love her soooo much.

Worn out and finding the coolest place in the house. Abbey has been curing up next to the toilet for a while; I'm actually going to feel bad when she doesn't fit there anymore.

My best friend/sister Carrie lives out in the county but works in the city a lot so she stays with us to cut her commute down.

Greighson Andrew loves it when she comes to visit and loves to wake her up with kisses.

Joey goes home at lunch time to check on The Girls (LuLu and Abbey) and let Haleigh and Greighson out to go potty.

The Girls are usually really good and we keep them in the kitchen by means of baby gate while we're at work. They have their crate/bed and they have access to the back yard through the doggie door.

For the most part they do fine.

But here lately Joey has been telling me that they have been making messes when he comes home.

I never believe him because I like to live in the denial that my babies are perfect. And there is never a mess when I come home.

Maybe they know.
I keep telling him they only do it when he's coming home. They don't make messes when they know mommy is coming home.
So today I get this on my phone:

Naughty. Naughty.

And if you look in the upper left corner that is Abbey in her crate/bed.

She's the smart one and knows this was not a good thing to do.

LuLu was probably bouncing off the walls so happy with her great kill of her bed.

I just laugh.

Now what they better be grateful for is that their daytime Molly Mutt bed has not arrived yet. If they tear up their Molly Mutt bed Mommy is going to not be happy with them.

And poor Joey.

One day he'll get smart and leave the mess for me to clean up when I get home with the "So there. How perfect are your little angles now?" look on his face.

And I will just have to laugh. God love him. And God love The Girls.

I have become addicted to Etsy.
If I win the lottery I swear a huge dent of it is going to many of the amazing artists on that site.
Etsy has probably been around for forever and a day, but as usual I'm a bit behind the times.
I'm not generally impressed with what's in style or the "latest thing" so if the latest thing happens to actually be cool well, I won't know about it for a long time - or until I end up stumbling upon it somehow.
So I found Etsy and I just love it.
I went looking for Joey's Father's Day gift from the kids there and I found the most adorable little "doggie family" by Adore Me.
I feel in love with it. There were two big dogs and two little dogs. Just like our kids. But there were two pink and two blue so I contacted the artist Isabel Sturtz who said it would be no problem for her to make me a little family just like my own.

I was so excited when we got them in the mail. Isabel wrapped them up beautifully so I had to be very careful taking them out, but they were so cute! And one of the little ones is fatter than the other so it really is just like our girls. (Abbey is still a chunky one.)

And Joey just loves them. He was really excited and loved that they were hand made just for him.

This doggie family will definitely make my Favorite Things list.

What dogs?

The other night Joey and I were out walking Haleigh and Greighson and this couple stopped next to us in their car; "What pretty dogs what kind are they?"
This look of confusion flashed across Joey's face.
Then he said; "Oh he's an American Bulldog and she's a Pit Bull."
When they drove off Joey looked at me and said; "You know I didn't know what they were talking about at first. I'm so used to thinking of them as our kids, I was like what dog?"
Me too.

Ice Water

Joey comes upstairs last night and tells me; "Your girls are spoiled; you know that? I went to get some ice water and Abbey and LuLu followed me. They sat there and looked at me. And then they looked at their bowl. And then they looked at me. And then they looked at their bowl. They had water. But they did not have any ice. They are ridiculously spoiled."

Just like any girl should be.

But if you were found left out in the county in the freezing cold with no food or water, the least you would deserve is some ice water in the summer time.
Being rescued has it's perks.

Allergies Smallergies

We have always fed our kids by product free food. We started out with Nutro and then when I found locally run Nature's Select we started feeding them that. I never really thought anything else about their diet.
They ate quality food and I thought that we were doing the right thing.
And then Haleigh's feet and muzzle started getting red and she would just lick and lick and lick her paws all the time.
Everyone said it was allergies.
But to what?

Once again, they ate good food so what could she be having a reaction to? They never ate pork because I detest pork. And they never ate beef because Haleigh Anne is susceptiable to Demodex so seriously she was having an allergic reaction.
So we decided to go with a fish-based diet for her.
And thank God it worked. Her little feet are no longer pink and her muzzle is going back to normal.
Sadly though there are very few options for doggies with allergies.
Nature's Select has an Alaskan Salmon, but when we went to PetCo they only sell 3 fish based treats.
I'm really, really big on not buying big brand. I know PetCo is Big Business, but we don't have a lot of options around here.

If I can I buy locally - like our local Nature's Select vendors - and always quality.
So if anyone know of any by-product free fish based food please let me know.
The few options we have are good, but she's going to need more variety eventually.

I'm a Molly Mutt Girl!

Joey was really getting irritated with me because I spent a lot of money on beds for our kids.
The problem is Haleigh Anne would eat hers or they would get dirty - and you just can't get that doggie smell out completely - or I would just want something new.
So this got really expensive and trying to find a way to recycle these beds (the ones Haleigh didn't eat) was kind of a pain in the butt too.
Well, I'm always looking for new stuff for my kids - like what I think any parent is like - and I found another thing that has to go on my top list of Most Favorite Doggie Things.

MOLLY MUTT BEDS

I have hit the jackpot for dog beds.
They are really pretty beds and do not look like typical dog beds - they are more like decorations.
They are eco friendly - you fill them with old clothes, blankets, pillows, etc.
They are really affordable. $20-$40 bucks - and the $40 is HUGE - how do you beat that.
They are really durable. I was honestly surprised by how durable and thick the fabric was.
I ordered the round one LuLu is on, two medium ones for Haleigh and Greighson and one huge one for upstairs (it really is big too).

The only thing I do not like about them is that I did not come up with this idea myself! :(

I am soooo excited about these beds. They are soooo pretty!

It's not a muzzle already.

It's summer again which means it's time to get out with the dogs. And by "out" I mean outside our neighborhood.
So here recently for some reason people have been making comments about Greighson's Gentle Leader. I have had 3 people in the past two days comment about his having a muzzle on.
It's not a muzzle.
I always correct people and wonder how they think that thin strap would keep him from licking all over them if they got close enough to him.
But that's what seems to be the consensus.
And the last thing I want is for people to think my kid has on a muzzle. He's not a biter and we don't want to promote fear of dogs of any kind.

But he is a puller and the Gentle Leader provides a safe, non-violent means of redirecting his behavior.
But it's not a muzzle.
Maybe I should just make him a sign to wear around his neck.

I met my husband (Joey) through my old roommate.

Deanna and Joey worked together and he was always fixing her beater Ford Bronco that she loved so much.

Joey was one of the sweetest guys I had ever met but Deanna kept telling me there was no way because Joey didn't like dogs.

What?

What man doesn't like dogs??

Well, by the graces of God her truck kept breaking down and he kept having to fix it.

And one night it broke down and left us stranded on the side of the road in a not-so-nice part of town.
And that was that. I was done. When he came and rescued us and fixed that truck right there on the side of the road it was over for me.
He was tall, handsome, smart (nerdy is more like it) and he could fix cars.
I found my man.
A week later he came to the house for a dinner party and we've been inseparable ever since.
He is my most favoritest human ever!

Oh and he LOVES dogs (Deanna got it backwards).

This is my favorite thing.
I found this dog feeder by blog-hopping one day.
I feel in love with it and had to have it.
A $235 water bowl was hard to convince Joey to buy but I finally won and I just love it.
The quality is fantastic and it will last forever. I am so glad I found this and for those who love to buy from small, non-corporation companies this is right up your alley.

Abbey Cracks us up...

Poor Abbey stuck in a house full of bullies! Just kidding. Little Abbey rules the roost around here. But she is quite the goof ball with her grunting like a little pig and the way she sits on her butt just cracks us up. Joey caught her just sitting on her bum looking out the back sliding glass door the other night. She is just hilarious; I'm so glad we found her and decided to keep her.

She almost was left behind. We were out doing Hay Day this winter - taking hay out to dogs who live outside to put in their dog houses. We found a litter of puppies out in the country and the people living there were more than happy to let us take them off their hands. Well, we thought we had all of them and as we were driving away Joey spotted one more. How he saw her I'll never know - they were tiny. But he did and then he jumped the fence to go get her. I'm forever grateful.
